Yummy Granny Cake

I was in the mood to bake something yummy  for breakfast, but with limited ingredients I looked for a recipe that had what I had.  Well I found Granny Cake.  It was easy to make and at the same time tasted delicious:) I was lucky to have pineapples in the cupboard.  I didn't do the topping they called for but just made a butter icing and drizzled it over the top.  Oh by the way I poked holes all over and then drizzled. It called for nuts on top but my kids really don't care for them so I left them out.  I wanted to make sugar cakes but no buttermilk.  Well hope your weekend is wonderful.
Granny Cake and Topping
2eggs
1 1/2 c.sugar
2c. flour
1tsp. salt
1tsp. baking soda
1 (20oz.) can crushed pineaples
1/2 c brown sugar
1/2 c. chopped nuts

Beat together eggs and white sugar, then add flour, salt and soda. Mix well. Add pineapple and mix.  Pour into greased pan.  Sprinkle with brown sugar and chopped nuts.  Bake at 350* for 35 min. ( I made mine in a 13 x 9 pan and it took 20 min.)   Just check it and make sure it's not getting to brown:)

Topping
1 stick butter
1 c. sugar
1c. evaporated milk
1tsp.vanilla
Combine the above ingredients and boil for 2 min.  As soon as cake comes from the oven, pour topping over cake.  Punch holes in cake with a large fork to let topping soak into cake.  Can be served warm or cold.

Crochet Cloche Hat

The Crochet cloche hat is finished!!!!
I followed a You Tube video on how to crochet this hat. The Crochet flowers are from Little Birdie Secrets this is the only way I can crochet and get it right.  I found another cute blog Lily Eden it has the cutest ideas for little girls clothing and other cute ideas.  I get so inspired when I find these kind of sites.
Sophia modeling the hat.

It is snowing again but the worst part is the wind.  It sounds like a freight train coming through.  Another day off from school.  I want to get my sewing machine out and sew.  Maybe I'll sew up a cute little Owl.

Books, Crocheting and Waiting for Spring

I have been under the weather the past ccouple of days so haven't been keeping up with life.  I laid on the couch and got my knitting and crochet bag out and crochet some flowers.  Wow what fun!!!!  I could make a ton of these.  I found a video on You Tube on how to make a crochet Cloche Hat.  I hope I can figure it out.  I'm a visual learner.  I can't follow a pattern to save my life.  My mom gave me some old 60's crotchet books.  I made three baby sweaters several years ago.  It seemed easy back then.  My sisters b day was yesterday.  I made a crotchet flower necklace.  It turned out so adorable.  Yesterday at school the librarian was getting rid of old books and had them sitting on a table with help yourself.  Well I love old books and boy did find some oldies.  I hate to see books get thrown out.  I found one of my all time favorites Tasha Tudor I love her books!  Such a beautiful illustrator.  My passion for her I guess comes out because I went to school for art (graphic design).  I love childrens books.  You will probably find me at Borders in the childrens section.  One of the other books was a 60's book on Bird Nest's and I love Bird books.  That's how I came up with my blog name.  There really is a Tailor bird.  It makes the cutest nest out of a leaf and the sews it together.  I have Spring on the brain.  I want to crotchet some bright little flowers and make my own little garden.

Surprise!

My husband went through alot this weekend.  He tried to fix our heater but made it worse.  He wanted so bad to be a man and fix it himself.  Well he broke something, which ended with two plumbers coming out. Somehow my husband managed to sneak out and get me a valentine present.  He got my favorite all time favorite peppermint patties shaped like hearts.  He also got me flowers and chocolates.  We went out to eat at Pizza Hut.  How romantic!!!!lol   I hope everyone had a wonderful sweet day!!!  I am so happy to have heat in my house.  I've  now come to appreciate having a home with heat.. I feel for the homeless and people that can't afford to heat their homes, oh and people that have lost power and heat  these past snow storms  Wow it's tough being without heat!

Happy Valentines Day!

Happy Hearts Day!  What a day, what a night!  We were without heat last night and this morning.  We all slept in our bed. The kids tossed and turned like crazy and the dog licked himself all night.  We had a plumber come out and mess everything up, worse than it already was.  He was clueless:{  So I wake up and go downstairs to 54 degrees.  I turn the gas stove on, make hot cocoa and pancakes for the kids.  I had oatmeal.  Well the next plumber comes and he's our original plumber so I had faith in him that he could fix our heat.  Last nights plumber was the first one we could get here at 10 pm.  I went yesterday and got my husband's valentines gift.  I got him a Carvel Ice Cream Cake.  It is in the shape of a heart.  I took the kids to the Dollar Store and they picked out cards and balloons.  I love the dollar store.  I was able to get all the items I need for a Haiti Kit that we are making at school. It has the basics such as toothpaste, soap antibotic ointment, matches and other things a family might need. Well guess what?  Our heat is finally on!!!!  YEAH!!!

Snow Again ?

A beautiful ice pattern on the window.

We were hit again! This time it was at least 12-18 inches.  I've been scrapbooking, making cookies and cleaning.  I went out yesterday and shoveled until I couldn't shovel anymore.  My neighbor built an 8 foot snowman.  This is her second snowman she has ever made in her life.  It is so cute.  Luckily the kids have off for mid-winter break.  My seven year old scrapbooked his first page . He started it and then I had to finish it.  He did a page on his red wagon he got for his 2nd birthday.  How cute to watch him create.  He made his daddy a valentine card.  He loves to draw and create.

Blooming Flower!

At school, over the last couple of weeks, we've been watching an Amarylis Clown Flower.  It was a Christmas gift given by a student. Every day we would check on its growth.  Finally it has bloomed!!!!  How exciting to watch it grow.

All things Pink!

I love the month of February.  It is full of all things Pink.  I went through my house to find thing that are Pink.  I made a cute valentine's ribbon.

Snow snow snow!!!!

We had at least twenty inches or more.  I'm not sure what the official record is, but we have alot!  I decided to do some scrapbooking and catch up with my daughters scrapbook.  I feel horrible that I haven't done anything for months!  I love being snowed in.  I made a batch of chocolate chip cookies and  used a new recipe. They turned out so soft and moist:)  The kids were dying to go out and play in the snow.  Once they got out they had so much fun.  This is my daughters first time ever playing in deep snow.  I helped my neighbor shovel out her driveway.  It was nice chating with her.  I invited her over for hot cocoa and cookies.  I found out she also loves Vintage Joanns.  I showed her my pink bag that I recently posted about.  She wants to own her own dress shop someday. How neat!  Well church is cancelled and it's another day of scrapping and cleaning the house!
