Yo Yo Quilt

Wow! Check out this beautiful Yo-yo quilt my mom made.  She is very crafty and loves to make things. Over our long snow she was able to sit and make eight-hundred yo-yo's.  It is very special because it's made of my grandma's left over material.  The quilt is beautiful!  She even did two pillowcases to match.    I would love to make my daughter Sophia one with colorful fabric for her bed.

Spring Is on its Way!

I'm starting to get the planting itch.  I can't wait to plant flowers and make the yard look pretty again.  I went to the Christmas Tree Shop and got some seeds and peat pots.  I went to my moms house and took some pics of spring.  I want to plant some tomatoes, cilantro and cucumbers so I can make salsa this summer.

Sally Jean

I love making Soldered Art Charms!!! One of my favorite artist is Sally Jean Alexander.  She has written a beautiful book called Pretty Little Things.  I found this book several years ago on Amazon and finally got it back out and started some projects.

This is my soldering Tool Box:)  I have all my tools in a shoebox. Works perfect for storing all my gadgets!

Here is the glass circle cutter my father made for me.  He is an awesome inventor!

Here is my grinder with a diamond wheel used for smoothing down rough edges.

Putting the copper tape around the glass.

The finished product!

A sweet little keychain!!  Thank you Sally Jean for Pretty Little Things!

Three cute little girls!

These are the three grandgirls.  Lauren Anne the cook.  She loves to make conncoctions!  Pretending to be a chef with her girlfriend is what she loves best! She also loves to be on the computer and chat with her friends.  Next is Grace, she is the little school girl who loves to read novels!  She is very bright and also loves to swim.  One day she will have her Phd and will be a professor at a college.  Professor Grace!!  Last but not least is little Sophia who loves the color purple! She loves to dance and sing like a beautiful butterfly!  One day she will grow up and go to New York City and be a famous singer.  She also loves to make us laugh.  Maybe the stage is her calling.  We can't wait to find out what these beautiful little girls will be someday!

Yummy Granny Cake

I was in the mood to bake something yummy  for breakfast, but with limited ingredients I looked for a recipe that had what I had.  Well I found Granny Cake.  It was easy to make and at the same time tasted delicious:) I was lucky to have pineapples in the cupboard.  I didn't do the topping they called for but just made a butter icing and drizzled it over the top.  Oh by the way I poked holes all over and then drizzled. It called for nuts on top but my kids really don't care for them so I left them out.  I wanted to make sugar cakes but no buttermilk.  Well hope your weekend is wonderful.
Granny Cake and Topping
2eggs
1 1/2 c.sugar
2c. flour
1tsp. salt
1tsp. baking soda
1 (20oz.) can crushed pineaples
1/2 c brown sugar
1/2 c. chopped nuts

Beat together eggs and white sugar, then add flour, salt and soda. Mix well. Add pineapple and mix.  Pour into greased pan.  Sprinkle with brown sugar and chopped nuts.  Bake at 350* for 35 min. ( I made mine in a 13 x 9 pan and it took 20 min.)   Just check it and make sure it's not getting to brown:)

Topping
1 stick butter
1 c. sugar
1c. evaporated milk
1tsp.vanilla
Combine the above ingredients and boil for 2 min.  As soon as cake comes from the oven, pour topping over cake.  Punch holes in cake with a large fork to let topping soak into cake.  Can be served warm or cold.

Crochet Cloche Hat

The Crochet cloche hat is finished!!!!
I followed a You Tube video on how to crochet this hat. The Crochet flowers are from Little Birdie Secrets this is the only way I can crochet and get it right.  I found another cute blog Lily Eden it has the cutest ideas for little girls clothing and other cute ideas.  I get so inspired when I find these kind of sites.
Sophia modeling the hat.

It is snowing again but the worst part is the wind.  It sounds like a freight train coming through.  Another day off from school.  I want to get my sewing machine out and sew.  Maybe I'll sew up a cute little Owl.

Books, Crocheting and Waiting for Spring

I have been under the weather the past ccouple of days so haven't been keeping up with life.  I laid on the couch and got my knitting and crochet bag out and crochet some flowers.  Wow what fun!!!!  I could make a ton of these.  I found a video on You Tube on how to make a crochet Cloche Hat.  I hope I can figure it out.  I'm a visual learner.  I can't follow a pattern to save my life.  My mom gave me some old 60's crotchet books.  I made three baby sweaters several years ago.  It seemed easy back then.  My sisters b day was yesterday.  I made a crotchet flower necklace.  It turned out so adorable.  Yesterday at school the librarian was getting rid of old books and had them sitting on a table with help yourself.  Well I love old books and boy did find some oldies.  I hate to see books get thrown out.  I found one of my all time favorites Tasha Tudor I love her books!  Such a beautiful illustrator.  My passion for her I guess comes out because I went to school for art (graphic design).  I love childrens books.  You will probably find me at Borders in the childrens section.  One of the other books was a 60's book on Bird Nest's and I love Bird books.  That's how I came up with my blog name.  There really is a Tailor bird.  It makes the cutest nest out of a leaf and the sews it together.  I have Spring on the brain.  I want to crotchet some bright little flowers and make my own little garden.
